Spectrum OC16 September Spotlights
Prep Football Top 5
Prep football is in full swing and it’s been a wild season so far around the state.
Teams have battled through injuries throughout the month of
August and with the postseason in six weeks, the push is on to make
a healthy run to the playoffs. With one month in the books here’s a quick
peak at our top 5…
1. SAINT LOUIS
With dominant victories over Kapolei and Campbell, the Crusaders
have opened the year 2-0 and have now won 28 straight games.
The defending champs are in prime form.
Linebackers Wynden Hoohuli, Muelu Iosefa, Micah Kim and
Bam Amina have anchored down a stout defense for Mililani that has
only allowed eight points through the first three games of the year.
Don’t sleep on the Buffanblu. Led by defensive lineman Legend
Matautia and defensive backs, Tevarua Tafiti and Alaka’i Gilman,
Punahou’s speed has overwhelmed teams in the month of August, only
allowing 18 total points.
The Sabers explosive offensive is led by the state’s leading receiver
Titus Mokiao-Atimalala averaging 17.4 yards per catch and seven
touchdowns already this year.
The Red Raiders have had their struggles early this season, but count
on their run to help carry them to the playoffs. Zealand Matagi is
averaging 6.0 yards per rush so far in 2019.

Sharing The Stoke
The State of Hawaii has always been synonymous with surfing.
Long regarded as one of the birthplaces of the sport, Hawaii remains
the epicenter of the world of surfing. Currently in its 16th year on Spectrum
OC16, “Board Stories” is a reflection of what’s happening on the
surf scene. Rooted on the North Shore of Oahu, the show spotlights
Hawaii surfers and myriad of surf events in our 808 State. It also
ventures across the ocean to cover big wave competitions all over the world.
The show’s mission statement is to “reflect the sunshine and share
the stoke”. Each episode gets up close and personal with the
surfing world’s compelling personalities. The surf action is
breathtaking. Shot from the air, in the water and from the shore,
the show has such an immersive feel you might think you can smell
the sunscreen from your seat on the sofa.
The show was created by Executive Producer Mike Latronic,
a champion surfer and a surf producer since 1990. He is, incidentally,
the only surf producer on television to hold a World Title, having taken
home the 2013 ISA Kahuna Masters World Team Championship in Montanita,
Ecuador. When asked about his most memorable shows over the
course of these 16 seasons, he recalls the travel shows to Panama,
Tahiti and Indonesia, big wave events shot here including the
Buffalo Big Board, Makaha and 30-40 foot waves at the Banzai Pipeline
and interviews with the most iconic figures in the sport, including
Sunny Garcia. Mike describes producing the show as “one great
stoker of a job” and is humbled by the opportunity to work in the sport,
community and environment that he loves and has been such a big part
of his life. Together with Director Andrew Oliver, they hope to
continue “sharing the stoke” and bringing you the very best of surfing
from Hawaii and around the world.
