What’s Up On Spectrum OC16 In February

January Wrap Up

February is here, and that means it’s time for the best in the state to collide for the HHSAA
Championships. But just in case you missed out on all the fun in January, here’s a refresher…

GIRLS BASKETBALL: DEFEND THE CASTLE

Castle’s Reilani Roller had a game high 14 points including a game-tying three to send it to overtime,
and knock off Farrington 63-52 to claim their first OIA
Title in school history.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: BIG NUMBERS FOR BIG RED

Kahuku’s Leiah Naeata put on an offensive clinic scoring 33 points – third-most in OIA final history –
to lead the Red Raiders over Kalani 63-59 and earn Kahuku’s first OIA D1 championship since 2005.

GIRLS SOCCER: AIEA BRINGS ONE BACK HOME

Aiea showed confident control in the OIA D1 Girls Soccer championship versus Pearl City. Led by
Nicole Olanda’s goal in the 9th minute, the precision passing and tenacious defense of Na Ali’i
negated the Chargers high offensive attack for a 1-0 victory to claim their first OIA title since 2005.

BOYS SOCCER: FARRINGTON FURIOUS START

Through the first few weeks of the regular season, the Governors pulled out three massive upsets.
Taking down perennial powers Moanalua, Kalaheo,
Kailua and Kahuku and averaging 63 points
en route to a 7-0 start in OIA play.

State titles are on the line all throughout February in Girls and Boys Soccer, Girls and Boys
Basketball, and Wrestling on Spectrum OC16. For more, log on to oc16.tv.

“Showcase Hawaii – Hawaii’s First And Only
Home Shopping Show”

Laurie Wong Nunez and Wayne Nunez

If you’re looking for a unique home shopping experience with high quality, affordable items
tailored to our Island lifestyle, check out “Showcase Hawaii” on Spectrum OC16! Currently
in its 10th year, the show features custom designed items as well as local, national and
internationally-produced products. The items featured on the show include all types of
beautiful jewelry from pendants to bracelets and rings, and also feature decorative items
like pillows, towels and bags. “Showcase Hawaii” is produced by the husband and wife
team of Wayne Nunez and Laurie Wong Nunez. Laurie was born and raised in Hawaii and
Wayne hails from California, but has been a local resident for most of his life, so they both
have a firm understanding of our local tastes and preferences.

Wayne and Laurie have a very distinguished television background, as they have played
integral roles at the broadcast network level in New York and Hong Kong for NBC, CNN
and Fox News Channel. They bring with them over 25 years of experience as talent,
producers, writers, editors and videographers, so they understand what it takes to produce
a quality show from conception to production to post production. In addition to their
impressive television credentials, they are both graduates of the Goldman Sachs 10,000
Small Businesses Program in Boston and SBA Emerging Leaders Program.

As excellent as the show is visually, what really shines through is the warmth that Wayne
and Laurie have for their audi
ence. As hosts, they genuinely sound happy to share with
viewers about what makes each item a great buy. When asked what inspired them to
start the show, they shared that they’ve always loved telling family and friends about
outstanding buys and new products and the fun they had helping people save money.
“We thought, why not produce a show about great deals and feature high quality products
at affordable prices!  It’s the same concept just with a larger audience.”

Heart Pendant

Producing the show locally, with inventory available on Island, saves on shipping costs and
allows Wayne and Laurie to feature items that Hawaii people are interest in. They
personally test each product that’s on the show to ensure quality, and they generally only
accept items from manufacturers who can provide enough quantities to keep up with
customer demands. And each order is packaged in an attractive box or gift bag so the
recipient enjoys the experience of unwrapping it or can easily give it as a gift.

What items will we see on the show in the future? Wayne and Laurie are always interested
in knowing what kinds of products their audiences want to see more of, so they closely
monitor the feedback they get from viewers who phone in their orders and comments
online customers leave on the website. Some of the things they’re working on and
featuring on future shows include specials at local theme parks and attractions, flight
specials to Neighbor Islands and the mainland, Las Vegas Vacation packages and dining
deals at local restaurants.

Tune in for great deals on beautiful jewelry and unique, top quality products on “Showcase
Hawaii”
Saturdays at 8pm.
